Lovage update...the seed wasn't the problem. I planted two more pots. I soaked the seed for 10 minutes or so and then left each set in a cup with a damp towel over it for a day or so. One set was soaked in hydrogen peroxide and the other in an epsom salt solution. One of them sprouted much better than the other. Unfortunately, I didn't mark them well and I'm not sure which is which. Anyway, if I can keep the seedlings alive, I should have a few lovage plants this year.
I also planted some portulaca in a squarish juice bottle cut lengthwise. The other half was used as a lid. I used a base of perlite to keep it from being too damp.
